Here is a list of SUP events this season that we are currently aware of and that are in Colorado or usually have a lot of Colorado Paddlers attending. These are in addition to the Thursday Night Rocky Mountain Luau’s the Colorado SUP Club holds every week in June, July, and August. The largest weekly SUP event in Colorado. Presented by Rocky Mountain Paddleboards at the Cherry Creek Marina.

March 17-19, 2017
50th Annual Missouri Whitewater Championships, Fredericktown, MO: This will be the second year that they will have a downriver SUP class. Look for paddlers wanting to hone their early season race skills to make the trip form Colorado to compete.
March 31-April 2, 2017
NoliFest, Erwin, TN: Another early season whitewater festival, this time on the Nolichucky River. Surfing at Jaws, races through the class 3 rapids, this is an exciting action packed weekend with several Colorado paddlers making the trip.

Tuck Fest – U.S. National Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC: One of the biggest whitewater SUP events on the east coast. Challenges rapids ion the forgiving whitewater center in front of a crowd of thousands. Don’t miss this early season fun!

Vail Whitewater Series, Vail, CO: The Vail Recreation District partners with Alpine Quest Sports to host the annual Vail Whitewater Race Series. The races will be divided between three categories including kayak (under 9’6″), two-person raft and stand up paddle board (SUP) with different course challenges every week. Course Challenge for each event will be determined the day prior based on river flows.

Back of Beyond, Moab, Utah: A 7-mile ACA-sanctioned race that follows the Colorado River through the spectacular red rock canyons of Southeastern Utah and past some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery, including through Moab’s ‘Postcard Alley’ and into Utah’s own ‘back of beyond.’

Golden Games, Golden, CO: The three day weekend hosts a variety of sporting events, live music, demos, clinics, gear swaps and more. Sports to be highlighted are Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle, Slack Lining, River Surfing and many more.

CKS Paddlefest, Colorado Kayak Supply, Buena Vista, CO: CKS Paddlefest features live music, a used gear swap, pro kayaking and stand up paddleboarding competitions, guest speakers, biking, running, bouldering, vendors, manufacturers, workshops, special events and much more. Paddlefest is the highly anticipated, interactive and hands on paddling event of the year for all ages and ability levels.

Yampa River Festival, Steamboat Springs, Colorado: Annual river event in Stea,boat Springs with three event SUP tournament. An attainment race, downriver Sprint, and SUP Cross.

GoPro Mountain Games, Vail, Colo.: Join the country’s largest celebration of adventure sports, music, and the mountain lifestyle at the 2015 Mountain Games. The four days of competition will span across nine sports in 25 disciplines, with SUP sprints and SUP cross events included.

FibArk, Salida, CO: Every year in June during the Arkansas River runoff in Salida, Colorado, a festival occurs called FIBArk or “First In Boating the Arkansas.” The festival focuses on whitewater boat races and paddlers from around the nation and world come to compete.

Coors Light South Platte River Festival, Denver, CO: This two day festival is Denver’s premier urban RiverFest. Activities will include free stand up paddle board demos, a variety of riverside recreational activities, live music, beer, food, and more.
Altitude Paddleboards SUP Classic, Littleton, CO: Annual Flatwater SUP Race at Grant Ranch. Normally a 3-mile SUP flat water race with a mass start.

Frisco Triathlon, Frisco, CO: Are you looking for a new challenge this summer? Register for the 3rd Annual Frisco Triathlon on Saturday, July 16, 2016 featuring stand-up-paddle boarding, mountain biking and trail running. This twist on a triathlon is open to all ability levels and encourages athletes to take on a new multi-sport event. The Frisco Triathlon was named “Best Triathlon” in Elevation Outdoors Magazine’s reader poll, 2016 Best of the Rockies.

9th Annual Lake Dillon Challenege, Frisco, CO: Held on scenic Lake Dillon. This SUP race holds the distinction of being at one of the highest altitudes in all the world.

Gore Fest 2017, Rancho Del Rio, CO Weekend racing and festival on the Upper Colorado. Beautiful SUP race through lower gore and Yarmony canyon this year.

Gauley Fest, Summersville, WV: All proceeds from the festival support American Whitewater’s river conservation and access works throughout the nation. Started in 1983 to celebrate the derailment of a hydro-electric project that would have disrupted the flows on the Gauley River, Gauley Fest has grown to become the largest paddling festival in the world. The festival is a showcase for American Whitewater and the top whitewater vendors in the boating community. The Colorado SUP Club will be at this event to help volunteer with the American Whitewater fundraiser.

New River Gorge SUP Race, Fayetteville, WV: The NRG SUP Race a grass-roots gathering of SUP athletes, never-before-SUPped beginners, curious spectators and industry sponsors to celebrate all things West Virginia SUP, compete and have a blast. We hold this event amidst the backdrop of West Virginia’s stunning New River Gorge every year on Sunday during Gauley Fest.

RMP’s Bragging Rights Grand Prix, Union Reservoir, CO
The final race in the Paddle the Rockies series. Come to Union Reservoir for one of Colorado’s premier stand up paddleboard races and SUP festival. Sign up for the 4 mile elite race to compete for some incredible prizes or just have fun with the 1 mile beginner/fun race. Even if you don’t race, please join come for free demos, skills clinics, SUP Yoga demonstration and to meet other Colorado paddlers.

The Pacific Paddle Games, Doheny State Beach; Dana Point, Calif.: SUP Magazine’s Pacific Paddle Games presented by Salt Life will feature Technical and Distance races (in both Pro and Open divisions), including Junior/ Grom Pro and Open categories, a Beginner Kids’ race, Prone Race, West Marine Demo Zone and much more! Additionally, The Colorado SUP Club will have club members at this race.

Ocoee River Race, Ocoee River, TN: Race on the class three rapids of the Ocoee River against the Southeast United States best paddlers. Several Colorado paddlers may make the trip this year.

Chattajack31, Chattanooga, TN: 31 miles muscle burning paddling to end the year. This is one of the largest SUP endurance races in the world. A Flatware River race through the Tennessee River Gorge. Make sure to register early, it fills up fast.
